"Tell Him Something Pretty" - season finalé

If this had been a mid-season episode, I'd've said, "Fine. It was good." But as a season finalé, it was a let-down. Sure, there was some great tension between Al and Johnny, and Cy's killing of Leon came out of NOWHERE! But ... I mean ... I wanted a huge gunfight dammit!!!!! The whole season was leading up to this big show down ... and Hearst just leaves????!!!! WTF ??!!!

And who won the election??!!

Favorite line:

Farnum to Al: "Everytime I hear his voice, I see the inside of his skull! Phantoms grin at me; oozing gruesome goo!"

    I was disappointed, too.
Especially because the previous week's episode was so exciting, it left me feeling breathless.
I wanted MORE! How long do we have to wait for the movies??

And whose body is Charlie keeping at the post office?

i agree it was pretty anticlamatic without a big shoot out. i was atleast expecting Hearst to burn down some of the town. The killing of Leon was pretty surprising but i knew they wouldn't kill Trixie, she was too important. also strange to see NG still hanging around carting Steve the drunk to cast his vote. the Aunt Lou and Richardson exchange was pretty good too.
overall it was a great season and i can't wait for the movies.

Such is the way of their season structure. Big bangs at the start of the season, anti-climatic endings.. I wasn't shocked. Big things still happened. Hearst left. Alma left. 2 very big things right there.

I would have loved to see a shoot out myself, yet I'm still satisfied with the conclusion of the season. However, i'm not satisfied with the conclusion of the whole tale, if the movie don't end up being made.

I believe the body Charlie had was Odell.

No one seems to be mentioning the problem I had with the season finale. Al killed an innocent woman, and no one (not even Bullock who is still the sheriff) seems to have a problem with it. Bullock gets all tough-guy over Hearst's treatment of Alma but didn't raise an eyebrow over the murder.

Does Trixie have more of a right to live because Al cares for her? Because Sol loves her? Because she had the balls to go after Hearst? While I didn't want to see Trixie killed and even though it resulted (in part) to getting Hearst out of town, killing the other whore was just wrong. Until this point, the people Al has killed more or less had it coming. Not this time. And why isn't anyone else outraged?

Hmmm... Outraged? We're mostly talking about plot device, dialogue and cliffhangers here, not the ethics and morality of a fictionalized television character. Perhaps a better way to discuss this is whether you think this action was consistent with Al's previous behavior. That is a point of debate, I suppose, but Al is no nice guy and never was. Maybe the writers felt that the audience was becoming too fond of Al. Although one could argue that killing the whore in place of Trixie demonstrates a dangerous sentimentality on his part. Or maybe the intention was to illustrate the ruthlessness of the old west Catch-22 in which Al found himself. Regardless, the action caused us to squirm but was not inconsistent with previous murders on the program, let alone the same episode (Cy killing Leon, e.g.).

Are you upset that none of the characters in the show was outraged, because I think that wasn't the case. The situation just lays bare Johnny's true powerlessness as a henchman.
